Karl Ahlgren’s Current Visit to Ukraine (Updating)

As both a consul and a chaplain, Karl continues his mission of supporting Ukrainian communities, strengthening partnerships, and standing with those affected by the ongoing war.

Sumy — April 13, 2026

Today, April 13th marks the one year anniversary of Russia’s 2 ballistic missile attacks on the city of Sumy during Palm Sunday Church services. 35 civilians were killed including two children and 114 injured. I returned less than 24 hours later to support and pray with the people of Sumy.

A few days ago I returned to Sumy and recorded this video in front of the Sumy State University Community building as a reminder to Americans s that we should never forget the past! These war crimes by Putin and Russia are continuing to take place everyday against Innocent civilians. Please pray for a Just and Lasting Peace in Ukraine!

Kyiv — April 10, 2026

During his ongoing visit to Ukraine, Honorary Consul Karl Ahlgren met once again with Glib Benia, the young Ukrainian defender whose story of resilience is featured in “Forged in Courage: A Ukrainian Military Hero – Glib Benia.” Ahlgren first met Glib in July of last year and immediately recognized the determination and quiet strength that would carry him through an extraordinary recovery.

Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, Glib’s prosthetic hand had already been fully funded by the time the fundraising campaign concluded. In a gesture that deeply moved everyone involved, Glib immediately asked that the remaining funds be redirected to help another veteran undergoing similar treatment. His instinct to give back – even while still healing himself – left a lasting impression on Ahlgren during their meeting.

Glib’s story, marked by courage, humility, and a commitment to others, continues to inspire all who meet him.

Chernihiv — April 1 - 3, 2026

Supporting Those Who Serve: A Cup of Warmth in Chernihiv Hospital

In the heart of Chernihiv, where courage and resilience are part of everyday life, wounded soldiers are undergoing treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation. These are individuals who have given so much – and now, in their most vulnerable moments, they need support, care, and simple human warmth.

Honorary Consul of Ukraine for Oklahoma Karl Ahlgren had the honor of visiting the Chernihiv Military hospital for 3 days. He worked alongside the volunteer chaplains and local citizens. They are ministering to the soldiers everyday at the Chaplain Coffee Café and for those who can’t leave their beds they visit them. This is what the Chaplain Coffee Cafe is all about!

Lviv — March 31, 2026

During his spring visit to Ukraine, Honorary Consul Karl Algreen arrived in Lviv, where he witnessed the aftermath of recent attacks on civilian and cultural sites. While in the city, he unexpectedly met a military chaplain — a moment he described as a meaningful and timely encounter. Together they recorded a short message of encouragement and prayer for the people of Ukraine.

Saint Andrew Church – After the Attack
Karl also visited the site of the Russian strike on Saint Andrew Church in Lviv. The second video documents the scene and reflects the resilience of the local community responding to the tragedy.
