On July 5, 2025, UAP had the privilege of traveling to Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center in Lviv, Ukraine together with Dr. Higgins. Our visit was not just a tour of a medical facility—it was a powerful encounter with resilience, courage, and the unshakable human spirit.
About Unbroken
Unbroken is more than a hospital. It is a place of renewal and dignity for Ukrainians who have endured the unimaginable. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the center has become a lifeline for thousands of people who suffered severe injuries—soldiers and civilians alike. Here, patients receive world-class medical care, prosthetics, reconstructive surgery, and psychological support. Most importantly, they are given the tools to reclaim their independence and rebuild their lives.
The Purpose of Our Visit
Dr. Higgins and UAP came to Unbroken to witness firsthand the work being done and to explore how international partnerships can strengthen Ukraine’s capacity to heal its people. As professionals committed to humanitarian support, we wanted to see beyond statistics and headlines—to meet the people behind the numbers, the doctors on the frontlines, and the patients who embody Ukraine’s strength.
What We Saw and Experienced
Walking through the halls of Unbroken, we were struck by the atmosphere. Despite the gravity of the injuries and trauma faced by patients, the center radiates hope. Bright corridors were filled with determination: young men learning to walk again with prosthetic legs, women receiving reconstructive surgeries, and children finding comfort in specialized rehabilitation programs.
We spoke with medical staff whose tireless commitment often means working around the clock. Many have themselves been displaced by war, yet they continue to serve others with extraordinary compassion.
One moment that stayed with us was meeting a patient who had recently received prosthetics. His words captured the essence of Unbroken: “They gave me not only legs, but my life back.”
Reflections
For Dr. Higgins, the visit underscored the importance of global medical collaboration. He remarked on the advanced techniques being applied at Unbroken, many developed through international training and shared expertise. For me personally, the visit was deeply moving. To see so much suffering transformed into resilience reminded me that Ukraine is not defined by what it has lost, but by the strength it continues to show.
Unbroken is not only healing bodies—it is restoring dignity, giving people the courage to look toward the future.
Looking Ahead
Our visit to Unbroken was more than symbolic. It was a commitment to continue building bridges between Ukraine and the international community. We are exploring ways to support the center through partnerships, training exchanges, and awareness campaigns that can bring additional resources to those who need them most.
Unbroken stands as proof that even in the darkest of times, humanity shines brightest. Ukraine’s people are fighting not only for survival but for the right to live fully, with dignity and hope.
How You Can Help
